It is that time of year when crafters realize we have just a few months to get ready for Christmas! I think I’m in the group of crazies who cannot wait for the next holiday… whatever it may be! But Christmas is truly my favorite holiday. While most of my Christmas cards reflect my faith and the birth of Jesus Christ, this card is just a fun, wintry-themed creation that just makes me happy.
I used several techniques to make it, can you spot a few? Go ahead and guess! I’ll list them at the end.
Here are some of the goodies I used to create the card:
The Stamping’ Up products I used are: (and you can find the current items in my store here!)
Memento Tuxedo Black ink
Bootiful Occasions stamp set
Oval Framelits
Filigree Frame embossing folder
and the “Merry” is part of a framelit set that has been discontinued
Stampin’ Dimensionals
Versamark ink
Whisper White cardstock
Black cardstock
Designer series paper
Stampin’ Up heat tool
Stampin’ Up white embossing powder
Other products include:
Sizzix Machine (you can see it in the card photo. I have a Stampin’ Up! machine as well, but this one matches my studio!
Clear embossing powder (given to me by a friend)
Copic markers (the tape on each cap is so I’ll pick up the sharp tip rather than the chisel tip first)
You may notice that some items are retired, but the real focus here are the techniques. Have you spotted some?
Give yourself a pat on the back if you noticed how thick the “Merry” die cut is! I cut it six times, glued them all together and put the clear embossed one on top. Let me just say that it was easiest to simply slather a small section of cardstock with Versamark, add the clear embossing powder, heat emboss it, and THEN cut the “Merry” from the embossed area. While there was a bit of waste, I could use the scraps for small punches if I wanted to.
Other techniques:
Copic Markers: I used two shades of pink and my colorless blender to provide a more realistic shading on the boots.
The fur at the top and on the pom poms heat embossed with white embossing powder
And finally, note that the stamp set only has ONE boot of each design. Did you notice that my stamping shows one boot in the background of the other? I was able to achieve this by stamping the first boot (on the left) and then making a mask by stamping again on a separate sheet of paper. I cut a section of the right side of the boot, then with a teeny bit of adhesive, I covered the edge of the original stamped boot, then stamped again. I lifted up the mask and voila! The second boot is behind the first.
I hope to do a video on that soon, so comment below if you need more info.
ALL of this to say that I’m participating in the Holly Jolly Christmas Challenge and the theme of Winter Wonderland. I hope you enjoyed my card. It was fun to make as I’m sweltering in the July heat of Savannah, Ga., planning on a pool date with my grandLittles this afternoon.
I’m sure we’ll have a “Merry” time!
Be blessed!
