It is County Fair time all around Georgia, and Barbie Beach in Sharpsburg is heralding the arrival of Coweta County’s fair season. Yes, folks, this is Barbie Beach, a haven for discarded Barbie dolls unfazed by rain, wind, sun and the occasional cloud of exhaust from nearby vehicles.
If you click on the picture above, you might see Shrek and a couple of the M&M’s guys on Barbie Beach.

Who knew that painted coffee cups or tea cups on a tacky plastic disk makes a perfect fair ride?

Throughout the year, while absent of hairdos, plastic pink heels and ok, for the most part, clothing, Barbie and friends are seen gathering for a variety of events such as volleyball games, July 4 fireworks, and even welcoming soldiers home. Why? Well, there was a story from the Times-Herald in Newnan and the… ahem… “artists” of this display were said to have the desire to make passersby smile as they make their ways along Highway 16 to and from Newnan and Senoia. Smile? Well, ok, but as you know “art” is in the eye of the beholder. I must admit I do look forward to seeing what Barb and the gang are up to after being on the highway for four solid hours. It ranks right up there with that human instinct of watching a train wreck. You just shake your head and wonder, “why??? WHY???”
Ok, this made me smile…the “Giant” 50 foot couple installation on the display. Woody’s not holding up very well. Yeah, it was funny, but then again I’d been traveling a long, long, long, time, and even Ninja Man was laughing at my jokes. Is that a gourd in place of a hot air balloon? Oh, these folks are creative.

The designers of Barbie Beach said they once had vandals ransack the beach. “How could you tell?” Would have been this newspaper interviewer’s question. When word got out about the demise of Barbie Beach, locals began to drop off bags of dolls so the husband and wife team could create yet another beach for the naked dolls. And by the way, the dolls who have clothing wear it until it falls off from exposure to the elements.

So now you’ve seen Barbie Beach. I didn’t even charge admission. You can thank me later.

I saw this article from One News Now and wow, I wish things like this had been available “back in the day.” As a family, we watched a lot of videos and if I could have ordered from Family Values Cinema I would have. Check out this message from the founder Patty Leonard, who also formed the National Board of Mothers just three years ago. Prince and the Pauper, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Where the Red Fern Grows are a few of the movies that you purchase, not rent from them. The selections are approved by the Dove Foundation. Apparently you have to receive the newsletter or inquire directly for a full list of movies, but there are about 18 titles on the site.

There are two options for subscriptions, so it makes it easier to give as a gift.

Sure wish something like this had been around when I was raising my family!

Newnan, Ga.

Ninja Man and I traveled to Newnan this past weekend to visit our daughter and favorite son in law. Yes, he is our favorite one, albeit the ONLY one, but hey… we’d pick him over any others. So off we go in the Daddy Bomobile.

It was raining as we left.

So we’re barely out of the neighborhood and the first thing Kerby does is go shopping in hers and HooMan’s suitcase (see black bag with “Kerby” tag (machine embroidered, by the way) She frees the chew bone toy that you can barely see just under her neck. It is called a Bouncy Bone and sold online at the Best Friend’s General Store. My friend Rebecca had one of these for her doxies, and HooMan went nuts. It is a purple ball with a bone sticking out of either side. You can unscrew the bone and put rawhide treats on the ends. The dogs love it, particularly HooMan, which Kerby is obviously aware of, having given it to him when we first got in the truck.
So we’re on the way, Kerby is up front and HooMan is happy in the nest. This is the huge cushion that Rebecca brought us back from Costco in Montgomery (I think that link is correct). I think the pups just love Rebecca! And we do too!

You won’t believe what we saw on our trip. Barbie Beach. I’ll post photos soon.

Daily Bible Verse

So, yesterday I read: “It’s either me or the house. We can’t both be beautiful.” It made me snicker… today’s Bible Verse made my heart and soul smile. Praise God, who loves us and lets us serve Him.

Yearbook pix

So I was visiting blogs yesterday and found this really fun site called yearbookyourself. It lets you put your own picture in to various hairstyles from 1950 thru 2000. Obviously, I enjoyed it… here are some results: First: John

Mullet Mullet Mullet
And now, yours truly

Ok, so that last one… um, I really wore my hair like that… but bigger, much much bigger. My friend Robin calls it Pageant Hair. I couldn’t agree more!
